Don't look for a truce in the race for mayor.
Republican primary winner Paula Hughes won't relent in emphasizing Fort Wayne's city debt and – as symbols of spending that could be cut – the mayor's salary and his city-provided automobile.
If she's elected, she said, the cutting will begin immediately.
“No longer will we be growing mounds of debt” without thought to its impact on future generations, she told a Republican crowd Tuesday evening.
Her campaign manager, Sean Bartley, expanded on the tack the campaign will take in facing incumbent Mayor Tom Henry, who easily won – with about 86 percent of the vote – against four challengers in the Democratic primary.
The race will offer voters a clear choice
